Sustainability — Our Environmental & Community Commitments

Sustainability and Community Impact

At Medical Tourism Indonesia, we believe that true health is inextricably linked to the health of our planet and our communities. Our operations are guided by the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, which emphasizes harmony between humans, nature, and the divine. This principle is not just a cultural touchstone; it is a business imperative that informs our commitment to environmental stewardship and positive social impact. We are dedicated to ensuring that our growth contributes to the preservation and prosperity of Bali and Indonesia.

Environmental Stewardship

We recognize that international travel has an environmental footprint. We are committed to mitigating this impact through proactive and measurable initiatives.

  • Carbon Offset Program: We partner with jejak.in, a verified Indonesian carbon offset platform, to calculate and offset the carbon emissions from our clients’ international flights. A portion of our service fee is dedicated to supporting certified carbon reduction projects in Indonesia, such as reforestation and renewable energy.
  • Reducing Single-Use Plastics: We actively support and enforce the Bali Governor’s Regulation (Pergub Bali No. 97 of 2018) concerning the limitation of single-use plastics. We select hotel partners who have robust plastic reduction policies and provide all our clients with reusable water bottles and tote bags upon arrival.
  • Marine Conservation Partnership: Our headquarters in Sanur places us at the heart of the Coral Triangle, a global center of marine biodiversity. We donate 1% of our annual profits to the Coral Triangle Center (CTC), a Sanur-based organization dedicated to marine conservation training and outreach.
  • Sustainable Sourcing: We encourage our partners to source locally grown organic food and use environmentally friendly products, reducing food miles and supporting local agriculture.

Community Empowerment and Social Responsibility

Our business is built on the foundation of Indonesian talent and culture. We are committed to being a responsible corporate citizen that empowers local communities.

  • Local Employment and Development: We are proud to state that over 95% of our team are Indonesian nationals, with a strong preference for hiring local Balinese talent. We invest in continuous training and professional development to build world-class skills within our local workforce, as showcased on our team page.
  • Supporting Local Enterprises: From our private vehicle fleet to our curated patient gift baskets, we prioritize partnerships with local, Balinese-owned businesses. This ensures that the economic benefits of our operations are distributed directly within the community.
  • Community Health Initiatives: We are developing a program to support a local Posyandu (community health clinic) in the Sanur area, providing funding for essential supplies and maternal and child health education. This is our way of giving back to the local healthcare system that is the bedrock of our industry.
  • Preservation of Cultural Heritage: We offer our clients opportunities to respectfully engage with and support Balinese culture, such as visiting local artisan villages or contributing to a local banjar (community council) project. We believe that cultural preservation is a key component of sustainable tourism.

Our commitment to sustainability is an ongoing journey. We continuously seek new ways to minimize our impact and maximize our positive contribution. By choosing Medical Tourism Indonesia for your health journey, you are also choosing to support a more sustainable and equitable future for Bali.

Advancing local environmental initiatives

While our carbon offset program addresses the global footprint of travel, we recognize that true environmental stewardship demands focused action at a local level.
